Trichomonas Vaginalis

Trichomonas vaginalis is a flagellated single-celled parasite that causes trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted infection and the most common pathogenic protozoal infection in industrialized countries. Infection rates are roughly similar between men and women, but women are far more likely to develop noticeable symptoms while infection in men often goes unnoticed. It spreads mainly through direct genital contact, chiefly vaginal intercourse, with an estimated 160 million new infections occurring worldwide each year, roughly half of them without symptoms; the standard treatment is the antibiotic metronidazole or a related drug.
