Long-eared hedgehog

The long-eared hedgehog is a species of hedgehog native to Central Asian countries and parts of the Middle East. It lives in burrows that it either digs or finds, is distinguished by its long ears, and is considered one of the smallest Middle Eastern hedgehogs. It is insectivorous but may also feed on small vertebrates and plants, and in captivity it can live for more than seven years. Wild individuals have been found to carry the brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, which can transmit Boutonneuse fever.
