All Bears

This group gathers Carnivorans that belong to the bear family, Ursidae, the largest living land carnivorans by body size, built with a heavy frame, a short tail and, unlike most of the rest of the order, a diet that in several living species has shifted mostly or entirely away from meat. It spans the polar bear, the most carnivorous living bear, the American and Asian black bears, the grizzly and other brown bear populations, the sloth bear with its long claws and lips adapted for feeding on termites and honey, the sun bear, and the giant panda and red panda, both traditionally grouped with the bears or their close relatives despite the giant panda's almost entirely bamboo diet. Their shared large body size and largely solitary habits set them apart from the more strictly carnivorous cats and the highly social dogs.
