The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) is a species of bottlenose dolphin found in the waters of the Indo-Pacific, including around India, northern Australia, southern China, the Red Sea and eastern Africa, generally in near shore environments. It grows to about 2.6 meters and up to 230 kilograms, with young born 0.84 to 1.5 meters long, a darker gray back, a lighter belly with distinctive spots, and more teeth than the common bottlenose dolphin, with 23 to 29 teeth on each side of each jaw. It feeds on a wide variety of fish and cephalopods, particularly squid, with fish making up about 87 percent of its diet, and is classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN, made vulnerable by its dependence on coastal habitat exposed to degradation.
