The domestic cat, also called the house cat, is a small domesticated carnivorous mammal and a member of Felidae, the cat family within the order Carnivora. It is an obligate carnivore with a predominantly meat based diet, retractable claws adapted to killing small prey such as mice and rats, and well developed night vision and sense of smell. It is a social species but a solitary, crepuscular hunter, and it is the only domesticated species within the cat family.
