The African bullfrog is a large, heavy bodied frog of southern Africa's savannas, family Pyxicephalidae, with males growing considerably larger than females and among the biggest frogs on the continent. Males are highly territorial during the breeding season and have been observed guarding, and even digging escape channels for, stranded tadpoles.
