Alcaligenes faecalis is a species of Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria commonly found in the environment. It was first identified at its namesake location but has since been found in a range of habitats, including soil and water. Though capable of causing opportunistic infections, most commonly urinary tract infections, it is typically regarded as a benign organism. It also has industrial applications in synthesizing nonstandard amino acids.
