Burkholderiales is an order of Gram-negative Betaproteobacteria in the phylum Pseudomonadota. It includes clinically significant pathogens in the genera Burkholderia, Bordetella and Ralstonia, alongside ecologically distinctive members such as Oxalobacter, which unusually derives its carbon from oxalic acid, the freshwater bacterioplankton genus Polynucleobacter, the photosynthetic purple nonsulfur bacteria Rubrivivax and Rhodoferax, and the nitrogen-fixing genus Herbaspirillum.
