American House Spider, also called the common house spider, is a cobweb-weaving spider of the genus Parasteatoda with a cosmopolitan distribution, native to Asia but spread by human transport to North and South America, Europe, Africa, Russia and the Pacific. It builds three-dimensional webs in dark corners of buildings, measures 5 to 6 millimeters long as an adult female, and while it carries neurotoxic venom it poses minimal danger to humans, biting only defensively when squeezed.
