Andean Cock-of-the-rock

The Andean cock-of-the-rock is a large passerine bird of the cotinga family native to Andean cloud forests across Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, occupying ravines and forested streams between about five hundred and twenty four hundred meters in elevation. The species shows dramatic sexual dimorphism, with males displaying a large disk-like crest and brilliant scarlet or orange plumage while females are considerably duller and browner, and it serves as the national bird of Peru.
