Cotingidae

Cotingas, family Cotingidae, are a large family of suboscine passerine birds found in Central America and tropical South America. As of July 2021 the family comprised 66 species in 24 genera, forest-dwelling and mostly fruit-eating, with broad, hook-tipped bills, rounded wings and strong legs. Species range from the 12 to 13 centimeter fiery-throated fruiteater to the 48 to 51 centimeter Amazonian umbrellabird, and the family shows remarkable diversity in social structure and breeding behavior, roughly split between biparental care and systems in which only the female cares for the young.
