Anubias afzelii is a species of aroid in the genus Anubias. It was first described scientifically by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott in 1857, based on material collected in Sierra Leone by Adam Afzelius, for whom the species is named. The genus Anubias was described at the same time with only this species placed in it, making Anubias afzelii the type species of the genus and the first species of Anubias known to science.
