Araceae

Araceae, commonly known as the arum family, with its members called aroids, is a family of monocotyledonous flowering plants in the order Alismatales comprising 114 genera and about 3,750 known species. Its flowers are borne on a specialized structure called a spadix, typically accompanied by a leaf like bract called a spathe, and most species contain irritating calcium oxalate crystals throughout their tissues. The family is most diverse in New World tropics and includes ornamental genera such as Anthurium, Philodendron, and Monstera, food crops such as taro, and Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum, which produces the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world.
