The corpse flower is a flowering plant native to the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia, famous for producing the largest unbranched inflorescence of any plant in the world. Its bloom, which can reach several meters in height, emits a smell resembling rotting flesh to attract carrion-feeding beetles and flies that pollinate it. The plant flowers only rarely, sometimes going a decade or more between blooms, and each flowering event lasts only a day or two before the structure collapses.
