Ascaris lumbricoides is a large parasitic roundworm and the most common parasitic worm found in humans, with an estimated 800 million to 1.2 billion people infected worldwide. The infection it causes, ascariasis, is most frequent in tropical and subtropical countries, and people living in those regions face the greatest risk.
