Asparagus, also called garden asparagus, is a perennial flowering plant species in the genus Asparagus, native to Eurasia. It is widely cultivated as a vegetable crop, with its young shoots eaten as a spring vegetable. In 2024, world production of asparagus reached 8.9 million tonnes, with China producing 87 percent of the total.
