Asparagales is the largest order of monocot flowering plants, comprising 14 families, about 1,122 genera, and roughly 36,000 species under the APG IV classification. Its members include asparagus, orchids, yuccas, irises, onions, garlic, daffodils, and agaves, most of them herbaceous perennials and many of them geophytes that survive through bulbs or tubers. The order accounts for around half of all monocots and ten to fifteen percent of flowering plants overall.
