The Baikal seal, also called the Lake Baikal seal or nerpa, is a species of earless seal found only in Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. It is among the smallest true seals and one of the few pinniped species confined entirely to fresh water; its closest relatives are the ringed seal of the Arctic Ocean and the Caspian seal, which similarly lives in a single inland body of water, the saltwater Caspian Sea.
