Bigfin Reef Squid

The bigfin reef squid is a common squid of shallow reefs and coastal waters across the tropical Indo-Pacific, named for the pair of large, undulating fins that run nearly the full length of its body and provide most of its everyday swimming power. Like other squid, it can change the color and pattern of its skin almost instantly using pigment-filled cells for camouflage, communication, and courtship display. It is a significant food species across much of Southeast Asia, sold fresh in coastal markets under a range of local names.
