The black-bellied pangolin, also known as the long-tailed pangolin, inhabits swamp forests and riverine forests of West and Central Africa and is the most strictly tree-dwelling pangolin, rarely descending to the ground. Its tail is proportionally the longest of any pangolin species relative to body length, giving it exceptional balance while foraging for arboreal ants and termites, and unlike most pangolins it is sometimes active during the day. Like every pangolin species it is considered threatened by the international trade in scales and bushmeat.
