Blobfish

The blobfish is a deep-sea fish found off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania, living at depths where the water pressure is many times greater than at the surface. Its body is composed largely of a low-density, gelatinous tissue that allows it to float just above the sea floor with very little muscle or energy expenditure, an adaptation suited to the deep sea's scarce food supply. The fish's famously droopy, deflated appearance is a distortion caused by decompression when it is brought to the surface; in its natural high-pressure habitat its flesh holds a much firmer, more ordinary fish-like shape.
