Boletus edulis

Boletus edulis, known by the common names cep, penny bun and porcino, is a basidiomycete fungus and the type species of the genus Boletus, prized as an edible mushroom. Its fruit body has a large brown cap that can reach 30 centimeters across and weigh up to 3 kilograms, with a whitish pore surface beneath that yellows with age rather than gills, and a thick white or yellowish stem up to 25 centimeters tall. It grows in deciduous and coniferous forests across the Northern Hemisphere, forming ectomycorrhizal partnerships with living tree roots, and is widely eaten in soups, pasta and risotto, though it remains very difficult to cultivate commercially.
