Brassica rapa

Brassica rapa is an annual to biennial plant species native to Eurasia in the family Brassicaceae, and one of the earliest domesticated brassicas, with turnip-like forms appearing first in its history. Its oilseed subspecies is known as turnip rape, field mustard, bird's rape, or keblock, while other cultivated forms include turnips, komatsuna, Chinese cabbage, bok choy, bomdong, and rapini. The plant grows as a summer or winter annual reaching 0.5 to 1.3 meters, with yellow four petaled flowers that develop into narrow seed pods. Its oilseed varieties are pressed for rapeseed oil, with low erucic acid strains yielding canola oil for cooking and colza oil for industrial use.
