The Caspian seal is one of the smallest members of the earless seal family and is unique among seals in living exclusively in the brackish Caspian Sea. It occupies the sea's shorelines as well as its rocky islands and floating ice, wintering along the northern Caspian coast and moving, as the ice melts, into the river deltas of the Volga and Ural and the cooler, deeper southern waters.
