Clark's anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii), also called the yellowtail clownfish, is the most widely distributed anemonefish, found throughout the tropical Indian Ocean and western Pacific at depths from 1 to 60 meters. Formally described in 1830, it reaches about 10 centimeters as a male and 15 centimeters as a female, and shows the greatest color variation of any anemonefish, typically black on the back and orange yellow on the belly with two white bands, though fish living with certain anemone hosts turn almost entirely black except for the snout and tail. Like other anemonefish, it forms a mutualistic relationship with sea anemones, sheltering among their tentacles while defending the host from predators and parasites.
