Cobalt Blue Tarantula

The cobalt blue tarantula (Cyriopagopus lividus) is a medium sized tarantula in the family Theraphosidae, native to the tropical rainforests of Myanmar and neighboring parts of Thailand. Adults have a leg span of around 13 centimeters and striking iridescent blue legs paired with a light gray prosoma and opisthosoma, though males take on a duller tan or bronze coloring and a leggier build after their final molt, and females grow larger than males. It is a fossorial species that spends nearly all of its time in deep burrows it digs for itself. Despite being fast, defensive, and possessing potent venom that can cause severe muscle cramps and inflammation, it remains a mainstay of the exotic pet trade.
