The common cuttlefish, also called the European common cuttlefish, is one of the largest and best known cuttlefish species. It is migratory, moving inshore during summer and spring to spawn and to depths of 100 to 200 meters during autumn and winter, and it grows to 49 centimeters in mantle length and 4 kilograms in weight, though animals from subtropical seas are smaller and rarely exceed 30 centimeters in mantle length.
