Dark Fishing Spider

Dark Fishing Spider is a large spider found throughout wooded areas of the United States and Canada, and despite belonging to the fishing spider genus Dolomedes it is better described as a tree-dwelling species that frequently enters homes in forested regions. Females measure 15 to 26 millimeters in body length with leg spans up to 90 millimeters, displaying pale to dark brown coloring with chevron markings, and females are known to cannibalize males during mating, a behavior that research indicates improves the survival of their offspring.
