Dolichospermum flos-aquae is a species of cyanobacterium in the family Aphanizomenonaceae. It was originally described as Anabaena flos-aquae before the genus Dolichospermum was established in 2009 to separate a well defined group of species out of Anabaena. It has been recorded across a wide geographic range, with type localities in Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, France, Germany, and the United States. As of 2025 four genomes of Dolichospermum flos-aquae are available on the NCBI database, though genome-based taxonomy has reassigned some specimens previously identified under this name to related species such as Dolichospermum planctonicum, Dolichospermum lemmermannii, and Dolichospermum heterosporum, meaning the species boundaries within this group are still being refined.
