Egyptian Giant Solpugid

The Egyptian giant solpugid, Galeodes arabs, also called a camel spider, is a species of solifuge native to North Africa and Western Asia, including Algeria, Egypt, Israel and Syria. It is among the largest camel spider species, reaching roughly 15 centimeters in length, with enormous jaws, called chelicerae, that can reach about a third of its body length and are used to seize and crush prey, though the species has no venom and its painful bite is its only real defense. It is strictly nocturnal and avoids sunlight, and can move at speeds of up to about 10 miles per hour when hunting or fleeing danger.
