European nightjar

The European nightjar, also called the common goatsucker or Eurasian nightjar, is a crepuscular and nocturnal bird in the nightjar family that breeds across most of Europe and the Palearctic as far as Mongolia and northwestern China. All populations are migratory, wintering in sub-Saharan Africa, and the six recognized subspecies grow smaller and paler toward the east of the range. Its densely patterned grey and brown plumage camouflages it by day, while the male shows white patches on the wings and tail in night flight.
