Flamboyant cuttlefish, Ascarosepion pfefferi, formerly classified in the genus Metasepia, is a species of cuttlefish of the family Sepiidae found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters off northern Australia, southern New Guinea, and numerous islands of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. Unlike most cuttlefish, it walks along the seafloor on modified fin and arm lobes rather than swimming freely, and it displays vivid, rapidly shifting patterns of yellow, white, pink and dark maroon, among the most dramatic color displays of any cephalopod.
