Fringed Bog-moss

Fringed bog-moss, Sphagnum fimbriatum, is a species of peat moss found in wetland habitats across temperate regions worldwide, from the Arctic south to New Zealand and along the Andes. It grows in loose carpets or soft mounds up to about ten centimeters tall, its stem leaves distinguished from closely related Sphagnum species by their finely fringed upper margins, a feature used since the species was first formally described in 1846.
