Great tit

The great tit is a small passerine bird of the tit family, Paridae. It is widespread and common across Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, reaching as far east as the Amur River, and also occurs in parts of North Africa, where it is a year round resident of woodland. Most great tits do not migrate except in unusually harsh winters. Until 2005 the species was lumped together with numerous other subspecies, but DNA studies have since shown two of those populations to be distinct species in their own right, the cinereous tit of southern Asia and the Japanese tit of East Asia. The great tit remains the most widespread species in its genus, Parus.
