Parus

Parus is a genus of Old World birds, family Paridae, the tit family, order Passeriformes; the genus name derives from Latin for tit. Following a detailed molecular phylogenetic analysis published in 2013, the genus was split into several resurrected genera, leaving Parus with three living species: the great tit, Parus major, the type species; the cinereous tit, Parus cinereus; and the green-backed tit, Parus monticolus. The great tit has the widest distribution, occurring across Europe; the cinereous tit ranges from West Asia across South Asia into Southeast Asia; and the green-backed tit occupies parts of Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India and Nepal. All three species are currently assessed as least concern.
