The green spleenwort is a small rock fern of the spleenwort family Aspleniaceae found across northern and western North America and northern Europe and Asia. It is distinguished from the closely related maidenhair spleenwort by its green stipes and rachides, rather than the dark, wiry stems of its relative. It grows in damp crevices of calcareous, limestone-rich rock, typically in mountainous terrain.
