Harp snail is the common name for several large, colorful sea snails of the family Harpidae, found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters and named for the ribbed, harp-string-like sculpture running across their glossy shells. They are active nocturnal predators that hunt crabs and other crustaceans, and unusually among snails, several species are able to shed part of the foot to escape a predator's grasp.
