Helleborus niger, commonly called the Christmas rose or black hellebore, is an evergreen perennial flowering plant in the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, and one of about twenty species in the genus Helleborus. It is a poisonous cottage garden favorite prized because it flowers in the depths of winter.
