Ranunculaceae, commonly known as the buttercup family, is a family of flowering plants in the order Ranunculales comprising, as of a February 2026 count by World Flora Online, 53 genera and over 3,700 species distributed worldwide, with Ranunculus, Delphinium, and Clematis its largest genera. Most members are herbaceous annuals or perennials, though some are woody climbers or shrubs, and typically bear bisexual, radially symmetrical flowers with free, unfused sepals, petals, stamens, and carpels. The family includes buttercups, columbines, hellebores, and larkspurs.
