Hen harrier

The hen harrier is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, inhabiting open areas such as marshes and grasslands across Eurasia. It is migratory, generally moving south outside the breeding season, though populations in milder regions such as France and Great Britain may stay year-round. The species shows strong sexual dimorphism: males are smaller, grey above and white below except for the upper breast, with black wingtips, while females are larger and mostly brown with buff underparts and brown barring; both sexes show a white rump patch, more prominent in females and juveniles. It measures 41 to 52 centimeters long with a wingspan of 97 to 122 centimeters; males weigh 290 to 400 grams and females 390 to 750 grams. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
