King Trumpet Mushroom

King Trumpet Mushroom, scientifically Pleurotus eryngii and also called French horn mushroom, king oyster mushroom or eryngi, is an Old World species of fungus whose name derives from its association with the roots of Eryngium campestre and related plants in the carrot family. Its natural range extends from the Atlantic Ocean through the Mediterranean Basin, including North Africa, and Central Europe into Western Asia and India, where it grows as a weak parasite on the roots of herbaceous carrot-family plants, though it can also be cultured on organic waste; its tannish cap measures 4 to 15 centimeters wide on a whitish stem 3 to 10 centimeters tall, and it is widely eaten and commercially produced, making up 30 percent of the Korean edible mushroom market since its introduction there in 1995.
