Lesser crested tern

The lesser crested tern is a tern in the family Laridae, found across subtropical coastal regions from the Red Sea across the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific and Australia, with a further population off the coast of Libya in the Mediterranean. It is a medium to large bird, 35 to 43 centimeters long with a wingspan of 88 to 105 centimeters, showing a black cap and legs and a long, sharp orange bill in summer, a grey rump and central tail feathers against white underparts, and a white forehead in winter. Its conservation status is Least Concern.
