Laridae is a family of seabirds comprising the gulls and terns, order Charadriiformes, including the genus Sterna, distributed nearly worldwide from polar to tropical regions. Members are typically medium to large birds with webbed feet, pointed wings and bills adapted for catching fish, and many species nest in large colonies on coasts and inland waters.
