Lesula

The lesula is an Old World monkey in the guenon genus Cercopithecus, family Cercopithecidae, found in rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo between the Lomami and Tshuapa rivers in the Lomami Basin. Although known to local people, it was unknown to international science until a captive specimen was found in the village of Opala in 2007, and the species was formally described in 2012, making it only the second new African monkey species described since 1984. Adult males have a distinctive brilliant blue patch of bare skin on the buttocks, testicles and perianal area, along with human like eyes.
