The Madagascar giant day gecko is a diurnal, arboreal lizard native to northern and northwestern Madagascar, where it lives in tropical and subtropical forest. Adults reach a total length of about 23 to 28 centimeters, with males larger than females, and the body is usually bright green with a red stripe running from the nostril to the eye and variable red spots or bars along the back. Populations have also become established outside Madagascar, including in Florida, Hawaii, Reunion Island and Mauritius, where the species is considered a threat to native day gecko populations.
