Phelsuma

Phelsuma is a genus of geckos, family Gekkonidae, known as day geckos, comprising roughly 53 recognized species with additional subspecies, native to the islands of the southwest Indian Ocean, chiefly Mauritius and Madagascar, with some species in the Andaman Islands and on the East African mainland and introductions to Hawaii and Florida. Unlike most geckos, Phelsuma species are active mainly during the day, display bright green, red and blue coloring that aids species recognition and camouflage, lack eyelids but have rounded pupils under a clear fixed plate, and have toe pads with tiny lamellae that let them walk on smooth vertical and inverted surfaces; species range from about 6.5 to 30 centimeters in total length, and all are listed under CITES Appendix II, with some seriously endangered.
