Round Island Day Gecko

The Round Island day gecko, also called Gunther's gecko, is an endangered lizard endemic to the islet of Round Island off Mauritius. It is one of the largest living day geckos, with males reaching a total length of about 30 centimeters though often smaller, grayish or grayish brown with a dark brown stripe from the nostril to above the ear and, in some individuals, light yellow bars on the legs and toes. It typically lives on palm trees such as bottle palm and fan palm and on Pandanus, feeding on insects, nectar and soft fruit, and is classified as Vulnerable after originally occurring on Mauritius itself before introduced rats and cats eliminated it there.
