Manilkara zapota, commonly known as sapodilla among other names, is an evergreen tree native to southern Mexico and Central America, occurring naturally, for example, in the Petenes mangrove ecoregion of coastal Yucatan. Introduced to the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period, it is now grown in large quantities in Mexico and across tropical Asia, including India, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as in the Caribbean.
