Matsutake

Matsutake, scientifically Tricholoma matsutake, is a species of mushroom with a cap that can expand to about 35 centimeters wide and resembles at least one poisonous species. Distributed across Eurasia and North America, it is a mycorrhizal fungus and a highly valued edible mushroom in Japanese cuisine, prized for its distinctive aroma; its name combines the Japanese matsu, meaning pine tree, and take, meaning mushroom, a usage in place since the late 19th century.
