Mossy Leaf-tailed Gecko

The mossy leaf-tailed gecko, also called the southern flat-tail gecko, is a lizard endemic to Madagascar, found in primary and secondary forest of the island's eastern and central tropical zones. It measures 15 to 20 centimeters from nose to the base of the tail, with large lidless eyes with yellow sclera and elliptical pupils, and grayish brown to black or greenish brown coloring marked to resemble bark, lichen and moss. Flaps of skin running along its body, head and limbs, called dermal flaps, let it lie flat against a tree trunk by day and scatter its own shadow.
